SlipStream Expands Compatibility of Leading Web and Email Accelerator
SlipStream SP6.0 to deliver full support for Windows Vista™ and an updated Macintosh® client
WATERLOO, ON, Canada - March 6, 2007 - SlipStream Data Inc., a subsidiary of Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq:RIMM; TSX:RIM) and industry leader in data compression and acceleration software, today announced the availability of the latest version of its leading SlipStream SP product. SlipStream SP6.0 introduces full support for Windows Vista™ and will also include a new Macintosh® client.
The newest version of SlipStream SP, which is the most widely deployed Web and email acceleration technology, will enable ISPs (Internet Service Providers) to meet the demands of their subscribers who are upgrading to the recently released Windows Vista™ operating system. SlipStream will also be releasing a new SlipStream SP Macintosh client, which will offer Macintosh users compatibility with Apple's Intel-based Mac®. The new Macintosh® client will be available later in 2007.
"SlipStream is committed to helping ISPs maximize revenue, which means enabling our customers to offer the best online experience to their entire customer base," said Ron Neumann, Vice President, SlipStream. "With SlipStream SP6.0, ISPs can prepare themselves to meet demand as users upgrade to the new Microsoft Windows Vista™. Our latest release addresses the code and feature changes that Microsoft® has made to the Windows® operating system, while continuing to deliver the fastest Web and email acceleration."
SlipStream SP6.0 is based on industry-leading acceleration, compression and network optimization technology and enables ISPs to accelerate the online experience for dial, fixed and wireless broadband subscribers, while significantly reducing bandwidth requirements. SlipStream SP6.0 also supports the SlipStream NOW!Imaging™ product, which combines SlipStream's advanced image compression techniques with innovative concurrent image delivery technology to optimize the delivery of Web pages.
An independent study released last year by appLabs Technologies, a global IT company that provides specialized services in testing, confirms that SlipStream SP with NOW!Imaging™ accelerates Web browsing on a dial connection up to 19.69 times faster.
Now, with the expanded compatibility offered by SlipStream SP6.0, Internet subscribers using a multitude of browsers and operating systems can access a fully-usable image rich Web page faster and without sacrificing image quality. SlipStream plans to roll out the new release to its customer base of more than 2200 service providers this month.
