SlipStream Data Signs BMI

Accelerated Web Access Comes to Grey-Bruce Rural Users

WATERLOO, Ontario, February 5, 2003 - SlipStream Data Inc. today announced that BMI Internet subscribers will soon enjoy faster Internet access via SlipStream's Web Acceleration Solution. BMI Internet, founded in 1995, serves customers from the shores of Lake Huron in the west to Barrie in the east and Brantford and Kitchener-Waterloo in the south.

High-speed access is not available to the majority of BMI's subscribers who live in rural communities. To address a growing need in these types of communities for higher speed connections, BMI is offering its customers a new service powered by SlipStream Data's acceleration solution. The solution will increase the speed connections from the traditional 56K connections, providing users with a tangible increase in performance through unique data compression technology, with no packet loss.

"BMI is the largest ISP in Midwestern Ontario. We are always looking to provide faster connections and improved services to our customers," says Hans Nilsson, General Manager/CEO of BMTS/BMI. "With a large rural subscriber base, high-speed connection is often not an option. SlipStream helps us provide our customers with enhanced Internet experiences by dramatically increasing download speeds."

In the past, rural users connecting to the Internet on a traditional 56K modem would actually have connection speeds of between 28 and 44K. The SlipStream Web Accelerator delivers connections to the Internet of up to 5 times faster than traditional dial-up or wireless access. The software compresses, optimizes and streamlines web content after it leaves the server, providing a dramatic improvement in web-browsing speed.

As more and more services become available online, the Internet has the potential to equalize access for residents, regardless of their location. For rural Internet subscribers, the Internet opens a world of opportunities for distance education, shopping and access to their government representations. Unfortunately, with low connection speeds slowing the access to this information, few rural users have the patience to wait for this new world to open on their computer screens.

"In rural communities, the need for distance education, services and commerce is real, and the benefits from a faster connection can be seen very quickly. Imagine taking a course online and not being able to keep connected with class curriculum. This is just one example of how SlipStream and BMI are bringing the benefits of the Internet into rural homes," says Ron Neumann, President of SlipStream Data.
