Technical Manager/Director, Multimedia Compression

At RIM/SlipStream, we are expanding our research and development team in multimedia compression and seeking qualified applicants to join the team.
In this position, you are responsible for providing technical leadership in R&D activities in multimedia compression, contributing to the development of truly innovative new compression algorithms for text, images, audio and video, and transferring compression technology into the BlackBerry® wireless platform and the RIM Wireless Handheld™ product line. The following qualifications and experience are required:
- PhD degree in EE, ECE, CS, Math or equivalent
- Strong track record of innovative research in information theory and data compression
- Extensive knowledge in text compression algorithms such as PPM, Lempel-Ziv algorithm, Burrows-Wheeler Transform based compression algorithms, arithmetic coding and grammar-based coding
- Extensive experience with H.261/3, MPEG-1/2/4 and H.264/AVC video compression standards and image/video transcoding
- Minimum 10 years experience in C++ and C
